Blackbook collects as little as it can. We don't sell or share your information, and we don't run ads.

Who we are

Blackbook is run by Kevin Jones, who decides how your information is used. Questions or requests go to kevin@blackbook.fyi.

What we collect and why

  • If you subscribe: your email address, when you signed up and confirmed, and whether you're subscribed. We use it only to send the brief and the emails that go with it (like the confirmation link). The editor gets an email with your address when you confirm. You agree to this when you confirm, and you can unsubscribe from any email.
  • If you send a tip or suggest a place: what you write and, if you give it, your email address, so we can follow up. The editor gets a copy by email. We never publish your name or email.
  • When you visit: anonymous, aggregated page-view statistics (Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or follow you across sites). Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a short time to run and secure the site.
  • On your device: if you pick a light or dark theme, that choice is saved in your browser. It never leaves your device.

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who processes it

We use a few services to run Blackbook. They handle your information only on our behalf, and some of them store it outside Thailand:

  • Supabase: our database (Singapore)
  • Vercel: website hosting and analytics (Singapore and the US)
  • Resend: sending email (US)
  • Google (Gmail): the editor's mailbox, which receives tips and new-subscriber notices
  • MapTiler (map data from OpenStreetMap): map images on the directory map, loaded by your browser when you open it (Switzerland)

How long we keep it

  • Subscribers: while you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so you aren't emailed again. Ask us and we'll delete it completely.
  • Tips and suggestions: as long as they're useful for checking a story or listing. Ask us and we'll delete your submission or the email address attached to it.

Your rights

Under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (and similar laws, like the GDPR in Europe), you can ask to see, copy, correct or delete your information, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent. Email kevin@blackbook.fyi and we'll answer within 30 days. You can also complain to Thailand's Personal Data Protection Committee.

Directory listings

The directory lists businesses and services. If you run a listed place and want details corrected or the listing removed, especially if it shows a personal phone number or a home address, email us and we'll fix it.

Changes

If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date above. See also our terms.
